Vietnam province seeks to develop IT industry
HANOI - The People's Committee of Thua
Thien-Hue Central Province has approved plans for developing the
IT industry between now and 2005, hoping to churn out 1,000 international-standard
programrs besides made-in-Hue computers by then.
At the conclusion of the plan, provincial officials are forecasting an annual turnover of
US$10 million from software production and a 20 per cent growth in the software industry.
Thua Thien-Hue has already begun work on the Hue Software Centre, Hue IP Park and
Hue-Aptech programrs Training Centre.
The province is determined to make IT one of its key economic sectors convinced of its
great potential, said Nguyen Van Me, chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
He also said that the province will attempt to lure domestic and foreign experts into
achieving its ambitions. About 100 IT specialists now working in Hanoi and HCM City
have already expressed willingness to work there.
Hue is one of four cities the Vietnamese Government has selected for IT development,
along with Hanoi, HCM City and Da Nang, said Doan Van Loc, chairman of the National
IT Development program, at a seminar there .
