Vietnam central city of Da Nang to get new IT centre

HANOI - A project to develop a software park in the central coastal city of Da Nang has won Government approval. According to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), the centre will be built within Da Nang University and will become the first such centre to be managed by a State-run university. Da Nang University will invest VND8.6 billion in the first phase of the centre's construction, from 2000-2002, and a further VND13.5 billion in the next phase.

The project will receive capital support from the MoET, local State funds and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in addition to the school's budget and its overseas capital. If everything goes as planned, the centre will begin next year by enrolling 200 students to train as computer programmers and high-tech workers. The University will increase its student body by 30-40 per cent over the next few years, and expects to produce 2,000 IT engineers by the year 2005.
