Vietnam asks to relocate soccer match with Iraq
HANOI - The Vietnam Football Federation has asked the Asian
soccer governing body to relocate an Olympic qualifying match somewhere
outside of Iraq.
''We filed our request to the Asian Football Confederation last week, but we
haven't heard from them yet,'' Nguyen Sy Hien, VFF vice president, said
Wednesday.
Vietnam has suggested Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore as possible alternate
venues for the match, Hien said.
Vietnam's Olympic soccer team was originally scheduled to face Iraq on April 5
in the first leg of the knockout round for the 2004 Olympics in Athens. The
second leg was scheduled for April 9 in Hanoi.
