Vietnam, France to ink bilateral co-operation documents
State President Tran Duc Luong and his French counterpart, Jacques Chirac, are expected to witness the signing of 16 documents on bilateral development cooperation during his forth-coming visit to Vietnam.
These documents include a letter of intent on France’s behalf to finance a project on Hanoi’s metro route, an agreement on the establishment of the French University Centre in Vietnam, agreements on financial support to projects on sculpture treasures and museums, an urban lighting and a railway signal system. A tripartite agreement on technology transfer between France, Vietnam and Burkina Faso may be signed as well.
The official visit to Vietnam by French President Jacques Chirac and his wife will be made from October 6-7 at the invitation of President Tran Duc Luong. During the visit, Jacques Chirac will deliver a speech while meeting with Vietnamese students and youth at the French Cultural Centre L’Espace. He will also meet with the foreign and local press and call at Dong Da Hospital.
France ranks first among European countries and sixth among 66 countries and territories which have invested in Vietnam. It is also Vietnam's biggest trading partner in Europe. Two-way trade value reached 1.3 billion EUR in 2003 and may reach 1.4 billion EUR this year.
