Indonesian coffee delegation to visit Vietnam
JAKARTA - Indonesia will this week send a delegation to major coffee producer Vietnam to observe its method of
producing and trading in the coffee, an executive said here Sunday.
The delegation would visit Vietnam from October 24 to November 2, said Nuril Hakim, deputy chairman of
the Indonesian Coffee Exporters' Association
The AEKI has said that Vietnam, a relative newcomer in the coffee market, has increased production from 162
million kilograms to more than 660 million kilograms in just five years.
"It is actually a return visit but we also intend to see how Vietnam can boost its production so fast," Hakim told
AFP.
Vietnam is projected to overtake the production of the second-largest coffee producer, Columbia, by 2002,
AEKI says.
Indonesia produces around 420 million kilograms of coffee per year and is the fourth largest coffee producer
after Brazil, Colombia and Vietnam.
The delegation will be headed by the agriculture ministry's director general for processing, development and
marketing of agroproducts, Iskandar Adinuhung.
