Hue prepares for the festival 2002
Hue Festival 2002, which is considered the grand cultural event of Vietnam this year, will be
opened in one month's time. Hue ancient central city is striving to make all preparations for the
festival.
This is a national festival of international scale with the participation of Asian countries and France
together with the domestic art troupes from cities and provinces.
This is also the chance for people in the central province of Thua Thien - Hue to develop their
production, business, tourism and services, striving to catch up with the average development of
regional countries.
Many buildings in service of the festival are nearing completion. Plans to set up designs and
decorations for ten main stages in Dai Noi (the Royal Palace), Ngo Mon (the Southern Gate) and
An Dinh Palace have been completed. Technical experts are inviting bids from experienced
companies from France, the US and others for electricity for sound and lighting systems, fire
control and emergency. The art lighting work for Truong Tien bridge has received consultation
from French experts. Plans for social security and law and order and urban area management,
undertaken by public security sector, have been fulfilled.
This year's festival attracts more countries to join as compared with the last festival's figure. Each
foreign country will contribute to the festival with their distinctive art performance. China with its
Yunnan opera theatre, the Republic of Korea with percussion and traditional musical troupes,
together with performances of Japan, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines
will all contribute to creating an exciting, various and diversified Hue Festival 2002.
With the large scale of this festival, Thua Thien - Hue province has defined tourism development
as the targeting purpose. Since mid 2001, the provincial tourism sector has worked out plans to
develop tourism among local people, opened training courses for hotel staff and set up regulations
on receiving tourists at local people's houses.
With the festival this year, Hue is striving to build itself as a distinctive festival city of Vietnam.
