Handicapped vietnamese woman sets world swimming record

KUALA LUMPUR - Vietnamese female swimmer Tran Nguyen ai has set a new world record for the 50m breaststroke with 52"77 at the recent Southeast Asia Sports Festival for the handicapped, PARASEA Games 2001, in Kuala Lumpur. Her record was recognized by President Anne Gneen of the International Paralympic Committee, announced the Vietnam Handicapped Committee on Nov 15, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday. Also at PARASEA Games 2001, Thai won four other golds in the 0m breaststroke, and 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events. Thirteen handicapped Vietnamese swimmers and track-and-field athletes carried off 14 golds, six silvers, and nine bronzes at the festival which was held for the first time in the region.
