Hackers attack 156 websites in Vietnam
HANOI - Hackers have attacked 156 websites in Vietnam, replacing the contents
with self-introductory information, Vietnam’s state-owned Internet gateway said
Tuesday.
The websites were attacked early Sunday morning and it took about 10 hours to
restore the sites, Vietnam Data Communications Co said.
VDC said the hackers were the same group that attacked 60 Vietnamese
websites in August.
It did not provide any more information about the attacks or the material placed
on the webpages.
However, the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported Tuesday that the websites
included those of prominent government agencies, such as the State Security
Commission, the Communist umbrella group Vietnam Fatherland Front, the
Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Education and Training
Ministry.
The hackers’ group is named “revengetheplanet,” it said.
It said the hackers replaced the contents of the websites with “provocative
content,” but did not explain.
Currently, five state-owned companies provide all Internet service in Communist
Vietnam. All must use a gateway regulated by VDC, and all regulate Internet
content.
