Man sentenced to death in Vietnam for murdering his granny
HANOI - A court in Vietnam has sentenced to death a 18-year-old who stabbed and beat his grandmother to death, court officials
said Monday.
Tran Van Nam was found guilty Friday in the March murder of his 81-year-old grandmother, whom he killed for her jewellery and
cash, a court official said.
The young man entered her home at Vinh Yen town in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, and proceeded to stab her several times
before beating her over the head with a stick, killing her instantly.
He then hid her body under her bed and fled with her gold necklace and about 50 dollars in cash. The unemployed young man was
arrested a day later.
At least 46 people have been sentenced to death in Vietnam this year, according to figures compiled from state media.
