Vietnam's first frozen-embryo baby is a girl
HANOI - Vietnam's first baby to be conceived from a frozen embryo was born in
the southern business capital of Ho Chi Minh City earlier this week, doctors said
yesterday.
The 3.1-kg baby girl was born on Tuesday at the city's Tu Du Obstetrics Hospital.
Both the child and her
mother, a housewife from
Binh Thuan province, are in
good health, said Dr Vuong
Thi Ngoc Lan, who was
involved in the birth.
The embryo was stored in a
liquid nitrogen solution at
-116 deg C in March last
year and was implanted in
the womb of the mother in
July.
Twelve other women are
currently pregnant with
implanted frozen embryos,
Dr Lan said.
Tu Du was the first hospital
in Vietnam to offer in-vitro
fertilisation treatment in
1997.
