Relief supplies reach stranded flood victims in Vietnam

Vietnamese officials say floodwaters, which have killed 46 people in the country's central region, are retreating, allowing rescue workers to reach stranded communities.

Two helicopters have managed to land in the mountainous district of Tay Tra to deliver relief supplies for the first time since floods and bad weather cut off the area last week.Meanwhile, 270,000 people in Thua Thien Hue province, are in need of urgent help with officials saying the main priority is to supply them with instant noodles, rice and kerosene. The floods have been triggered by torrential rains from Typhoon Muifa which submerged 170,000 houses in five provinces and destroyed roads.

Muifa killed 61 people in the Philippines before weakening into a tropical storm and moving into the Gulf of Thailand.
