Foreign investment in Vietnam down
HANOI - Vietnam attracted 263 foreign
invested projects totally capitalized at 473.5 million U.S.
dollars in the first half of this year, Vietnam News Agency
reported Thursday.
Though the number of projects increased 12.8 percent year-on-
year, the registered investment capital was equal to only 44.4
percent of that of the same period last year.
The newly-licensed projects include 210 industrial and
construction projects with a combined capital of 353 million
dollars, 14 agricultural-forest-fisheries projects, 28.65 million
dollars, and 39 service projects, 51.78 million dollars.
The southern province of Dong Nai alone attracted 34 projects,
totally capitalized at 108.32 million dollars.
Meanwhile, disbursement by the foreign investment sector was
estimated at 1.05 billion dollars in the past six months,
representing an 11 percent year-on-year increase.
The total turnover of foreign invested projects increased 19
percent, their export value increased 18 percent to 1.98 billion
dollars and import value up 38 percent to 3 billion dollars in the
reviewed period. And they created jobs for 450,000 workers.
