Vietnam to host the 45th Asia-Pacific film festival in 2000
HANOI - Vietnam will host the 45th
Asia-Pacific Film Festival in the year 2000. The decision was passed at the 43rd
Asia-Pacific Film Festival held in Taiwan earlier this month.
Vietnam's documentary film "Tro Lai Ngu Thuy" (Return to Ngu Thuy), directed
by Le Manh Thich, bagged the prize for best short film at the recent festival.
Four other Vietnamese films won international prizes in 1998. The feature film,
"Giai Han" (Warding off Misfortune), directed by Vu Xuan Hung, won the most
popular film award of the third Newport Beach Film Festival held in California, the
United States, in April.
"Ai Xuoi Van Ly" (The Long Journey), directed by Le Hoang, carried off the
bronze medal of the Bergamo International Film Festival in Italy. The film also won
a Silver Balloon at the 19th International Tri-Continental Film Festival in Nante,
France, in 1997.
Another feature film "Nga Ba Dong Loc" (Dong Loc Junction), directed by Luu
Trong Ninh, was awarded the Cup of the Korean National Peace Committee at
the sixth Non-aligned and Developing Countries' Film Festival held in Pyongyang,
the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in September.
"Noi Chien Tranh Da Di Qua" (Where the War Passed) a documentary film
directed by Vu Thi Le My, won the jury's prize at the International Film Festival in
Canada.
