Two more mobile phones explode in Vietnam

A Nokia mobile phone exploded in a man's pocket in Vietnam's central city of Danang, while in Hanoi a Samsung handset also self-destructed, state media said on Sunday. Nguyen The Dang, owner of a Samsung C100 phone, admitted he had bought it from an unauthorised dealer but was nevertheless surprised by Friday's mini-blast, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported.

The South Korean electronics giant said it would look into the incident but advised consumers to only buy Samsung products from registered outlets. In the other incident, an unidentified man who worked an accountancy firm in Danang, said his Nokia 8310 phone was not in use when it exploded on Thursday. "The mobile was in a normal state in my trouser pocket and there were no communication at that time when suddenly I heard a little explosion and my phone became hot," he told Saturday's Tuoi Tre newspaper. "I took it out and found the mobile was off and I couldn't use it."

The man, who was not injured, said the blast caused a thumbnail-sized hole in the handset's front cover and blackened the screen. He said he had bought the phone with a 12-month guarantee from an official Nokia supplier in April last year for around $335. He had not replaced any parts.
