Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Selects Motorola for Nationwide Paging
Infrastructure
Motorola's Asia-Pacific Paging
Networks Division (APPND) today signed a paging infrastructure contract
valued at US $1.5 million with VNPT (Posts & Telecommunications of Vietnam)
to expand the country's third POCSAG nationwide network. The country's other
two nationwide networks are also supplied by Motorola and are operating on
the 280 MHz channel.
In this contract, Motorola will supply over 50 Nucleus(r) transmitters with
installation and training programs. The network is expected to be
operational by early 1998. It is designed to further increase the coverage
in rural areas, allowing these rural communities to enjoy the same
technological benefits as urban centers and further their development
potential.
VNPT is the first nationwide paging operator in Vietnam. It has been
upgrading its paging network for the past three years to provide quality
paging services to the people in Vietnam. Motorola has been the only
nationwide paging infrastructure supplier for Vietnam since the first
network was inaugurated in 1995.
``The third phase expansion of VNPT/GPC's paging network is to increase the
coverage in the rural areas and hence represents a significant step forward
in opening doors to development opportunities for the country's rural
communities. We were glad to work with Motorola and their technologically
advanced products,'' said Mr. Luu Van Luan, Director of VNPT/GPC.
``This is the single largest paging infrastructure contract ever purchased
by VNPT/GPC. As a market leader in Vietnam, Motorola is optimistic about the
paging market in the country and is ready to give full sales and technical
assistance to support it. In addition, Motorola is planning to introduce
FLEX(TM) protocol-based technology with VNPT/GPC to the country next year to
better serve the telecommunications industry,'' said Mr. Chew Hock Siong,
Director of Distribution for South Asia of APPND.
Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications,
semiconductors, and advanced electronic systems, components, and services.
Major equipment businesses include paging and data communications, cellular
telephone, two-way radio, personal communications, automotive, defense and
space electronics and computers. Motorola semiconductors power communication
devices, computers and millions of other products. Motorola's 1996 sales
were $28 billion.
