Divorce cases in Vietnam on increase
HANOI - Courts in Vietnam received 53,573 applications
for divorce in the first 10 months of this year, compared to a total of
51,548 divorce applications last year, local newspaper New Hanoi reported
on Tuesday.
As many as 63 percent of writers of the applications for divorces are
women, it added.
The numbers of divorced young couples and couples aged more than 55 have
increased over the past few years. Major causes for their divorces are
adultery and economic conflicts between husbands and wives.
Vietnam reported 215,717 cases of divorces from 1995 to 1999. Causes
included domestic violence with most of the victims being women, adultery
and disputes among family members.
