Vietnamese mafia boss awaits verdict on appeal
After more than six weeks of appeal hearings, Vietnam's most powerful mafia boss, Nam Cam, and 68 co-defendants will hear their
fate on Thursday.
Nam Cam was among six people sentenced to death after being found guilty of ordering the assassination of a rival underworld figure
and bribing state officials to protect his criminal network.
The appeal trial opened in the People's Supreme Court in Ho Chi Minh City on September 15.
Three senior officials, including two former members of the Communist Party's Central Committee, are among those appealing
sentences handed down on June 5 in a mass trial.
