Vietnam national assembly seen opening may 22
HANOI - Vietnam's next lawmaking National Assembly will likely open May 22, an official at the body's
information department told Dow Jones Newswires Monday.
She said a final decision has not been made, but Assembly officials have proposed that this year's opening session open on that
day.
A final announcement will be made soon.
Hanoi's National Assembly meets twice a year, once in the spring and once in the autumn.
The official said lawmakers will discuss various issues during their month-long meeting, including the approval of four new laws
- on fire prevention, cultural heritage, customs issues and transportation - and will amend existing laws that deal with land
regulations and criminal litigation.
The National Assembly is also expected to formally announce a new ministerial lineup that was decided during March's Ninth
Communist Party Congress but must be passed in to law by the Assembly.
