Vietnamese president inks economic deals with Argentina

BUENOS AIRES - Vietnamese president Tran Duc Luong inked several economic accords with Argentina, on the heels of trade deals signed between the two countries. Luong arrived in Argentina on Sunday en route back to Vietnam after attending a weekend summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in neighboring Chile.

The Vietnamese leader signed the economic accords with Argentine president Nestor Kirchner and heaped praise on his Argentine counterpart. "We are working to boost the relations of cooperation and friendship between our countries, not only in commerce, but also cultural and tourism links," Luong said. Buenos Aires is lending support to Hanoi's intention to join the World Trade Organization. Luong also received a warm welcome during a visit to the Argentine Congress.

"Vietnam's history is a source of inspiration, showing how a people can overcome crisis and war to today transform their economy into Asia's second-fastest in terms of growth," said Senate leader Daniel Scioli. In supporting Vietnam's bid to join the WTO, Argentina follows Chile and Brazil in doing so.
