NTT expands Arcstar to Vietnam
Japan-based NTT Worldwide Telecommunications Corporation (NTTWT) has
announced an agreement with Vietnam Datacommunication Company (VDC), a
wholly-owned subsidiary of Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation
(VNPT). The two companies will jointly offer NTT’s Arcstar international frame relay
service between Vietnam and over 50 other countries and regions. The Arcstar service
agreement has yet to be officially signed but it is anticipated that services will
commence by March 2001. VDC’s decision to begin an international frame-relay
service comes in response to demand from customers for better quality and lower
cost.
The NTT Com group, sole owner of NTTWT, will be the first Japanese carrier to sign
such an agreement with a Vietnamese telco; it has long made known its intention to
increase its presence in the country where over a thousand Japanese and multinational
companies are now trading.
