Vietnam elected vice-chairman of Francophone Parliamentary Assembly
A Vietnamese National Assembly deputy has been elected vice-chairman of
the French-speaking countries Parliamentary Assembly (APF), also becoming
a member of the Executive Committee.
Nguyen Ngoc Tran, vice-chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly
Commission for External Affairs will hold the position for the 2003-2005 term.
Tran headed the Vietnamese delegation to the Conference, which took place
in Niamey, capital city of Niger from July 5-9.
Major goals defined at the congress for the 2003-2005 term include cultural
diversity, sustainable development and the rule of law.
APF brings together parliaments from 64 countries that share the use of the
French language.
The Vietnamese delegation also met with the Chairman of Nigerian Parliament
and held talks with the host country's Parliament's Committee for External
Relations and the group of Niger-Asia friendship MPs, agreeing to boost
bilateral relations.
