Delta Air Lines files for Vietnam service, Air France codeshare
ATLANTA - Delta Air Lines filed an application with the U.S. Department of
Transportation seeking authority to provide codeshare service from the United States to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam
on March 15, 2000. The new Delta service to Vietnam will be provided on flights operated from Paris by Air France, Delta's
global alliance partner.
Air France provides four weekly roundtrip flights between Paris and Ho Chi Minh City via Singapore with a B-777 aircraft and
three weekly roundtrip flights between Paris and Hanoi via Bangkok, Thailand with a B-747-400 aircraft. Delta would
codeshare on both Air France flights.
The new service will provide business and leisure travelers in the eastern half of the United States with convenient service to
Vietnam via Paris. Delta and Air France operate daily, non-stop flights to Paris from eight U.S. gateways - Atlanta, Boston,
Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), San Francisco and Washington (Dulles).
The authority for Delta to fly to Vietnam with its global alliance partner Air France is possible following the signing on March 3,
2000 of a Memorandum of Discussions (MOD) between the United States and Vietnam. The permits carriers of each country
to engage in bilateral and third-county U.S.-Vietnam codeshare services.
Delta, named Airline of the Year by Air Transport World magazine and "Best-Managed Major Airline" for 1999 by Aviation
Week & Space Technology magazine, is the world's most flown carrier. More than 105 million passengers traveled on Delta in
1999. Delta, Delta Express, the Delta Shuttle, the Delta Connection carriers and Delta's Worldwide Partners operate 5,423
flights each day to 365 cities in 60 countries.
Issued on behalf of Delta Air Lines by Ketchum Newscan Public Relations - March 17, 2000.
